Our Recovery Services
At Phoenix Domus Halfway House, we provide structured, supportive, and individualized care to help residents achieve long-term recovery and successful reintegration into society.
All residents are encouraged to meet with their assigned counselor at least once per week, for a one-hour counseling session. Additional sessions may be requested by the resident and will be given prompt attention by one of the counselors. The drug counseling sessions have a clear structure. However, within the framework of that structure, the content of the discussion is largely up to the resident. We make an effort to effectively address the resident’s individual needs at any point in treatment while also recognizing the commonality of many issues in addiction and recovery.
Treatment Plans and Case Consults are an integral component of treatment activities. Weekly clinical staff meetings are held to review a minimum of 4 cases. A standing agenda item is to review cases, using the Case Consult Form. The Project Director or Lead Counselor will ask what case consults are due. The counselors are responsible for preparing case consults prior to the weekly clinical staff meeting, when due. Counselors are responsible for updating the treatment plans and case consults every thirty (30) days. The Project Director, Lead Counselor, and other staff present at the weekly meetings will sign off on the Case Consult Form, using the designated signature area on the form.
Phoenix Domus recognizes 12-Step programs as an essential component in our Halfway House services. We are committed to ensuring that residents have access to meetings. Two NA meetings will be held weekly at our Halfway House, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Project Director, Clinical Supervisor, and Special Programs Manager are committed to ensuring that residents have access to meetings in the community daily, if they choose to attend.
Any form of therapy involving a therapist, counselor, or clinical technician, and two or more residents at the same time is group therapy. This version of treatment is more often applied to addiction treatment and family counseling, and less often applied to specific mental health conditions. Clinical group therapy will follow the CBT model as its primary foundation for groups. Phoenix Domus Halfway House will offer clinical group therapy daily, excluding Sundays.
Peer support can be defined as the process of giving and receiving nonprofessional, nonclinical assistance from individuals with similar conditions or circumstances to achieve long-term recovery from psychiatric, alcohol, and/or other drug-related problems (Tracy & Wallace, 2016, para. 1). In addition to providing daily clinical group therapy sessions, Phoenix Domus Halfway House will offer a variety of other formal group sessions each day. Non-clinical/Peer groups are required to attend by residents. A major emphasis of non-clinical groups will focus on peer support, abstinence, the reintegration into family, social, and community life.
Phoenix Domus believes in the power of work to help individuals reintegration into society. As such, great emphasis will be placed on job preparation skills, career exploration, and working with outside agencies/schools to help the residents pursue training/classes, if they choose. Guest speakers will be brought in from organizations such as the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR), Pennsylvania CareerLink, the Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center, Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, and others.
